Wolfgang Van Halen to Release Solo Album

by Ron Rego

July 16, 2020

We spent decades listening to Eddie Van Halen playing guitar and is arguably one of the best ever. His son Wolfgang is set to release his first solo album and said he is ready for the hate to come his way. He said the good thing is, that being who he is, people will give it a listen, but the fact they will measure him to his father may not be "Van Haleny enough" and will hate him.

In 2007, he replaced Michael Anthony as bassist for Van Halen when he was just 16 years old. He has been recording the album since at least 2015 and was rumoured to be complete in 2018, but never surfaced. On July 7th in a tweet, Wolfgang said he was working on it. He said “The state of the world has really thrown a wrench into how I saw this releasing (given that no touring is able to happen until this all blows over) but I have a few ideas that I’m really excited about, so stay tuned!!”

We all look forward to the release and hopefully people won't judge to harshly. After all, it is his first solo album. Eddie Van Halen seems to be enjoying his son's journey and has not hinted at returning with Van Halen. They haven't done anything since their 2015 tour. Wolfgang maybe his focus.

Prince is a Music Legend

by Ron Rego

Just watched the special they aired “The Grammy Awards tribute to Prince” last night. Im pretty sure this aired 3 or 4 years ago, but the point is, I am stunned it has already been four years since we lost him. As I listened to all the musicians play his music, song after song, I realized how great Prince was. I already knew that going into it, but his song catalog is just amazing. I started thinking about who I would put on my music Mt. Rushmore, and I gotta say Prince would definitely be there. Just the impact of his music would be enough, but the songwriting for other artists would be in itself amazing. He discovered so many artists and made them stars. From Sheila E to Morris day and the Time to The Bangles. His mark on the industry would be known right from the start when he demanded total control of his music. I kept tossing around who would join him on Rushmore, and I came to the conclusion that there are so many deserving artists both living and deceased. So with that, going just deceased, I have to add Elvis Presley to join Prince. I know a lot of his songs came from other writers, but facts are facts, he changed the country in so many ways musically. Frankly, I loved his music. Next up, although I would love to put The Beatles on there, I have to say John Lennon. Again he changed the music industry with The Beatles and then again as a solo artist. Then my third to join was a little more difficult. I thought about Janis Jopplin, Kurt Cobain, Jimmy Hendrix and Tupac, but their impact on me wasn't there. Then, Freddy Mercury came to head. I loved Queen's music when I was younger and still do. They were different from everyone. He was a pure showman and clearly was a genius especially on stage. I am very comfortable with my Rushmore and would love to hear yours. If you add living legends, I am not sure if it would stay the same as there are many that can be considered. Madonna, Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, Eric Clapton to name a few.
