John Faraone

Providence, RI

2018 saw the release of John Faraone’s debut LP, titled Light Upon. Faraone, based in Pawtucket, RI, recorded much of the album on his own at home. The recording process took 3 years to complete, with help from programs like the Iguana Fund at Club Passim and a free recording session at Converse Rubber Tracks in Boston. During that time, Faraone was simultaneously solidifying his status as an active performer and supporter of music in the Rhode Island and New England scenes. Light Upon was also recorded in several studios throughout Rhode Island, including Eyeland Studios at the Columbus Theatre in Providence, and Big Nice Studio in Lincoln. Equal in importance to this record are the quality of the recordings and the honesty of their delivery. There is no fluff, no cliché, no gimmick. PVDLive writes of Light Upon, “You trust the words on this album, that they have been felt deep down.” Light Upon was released on September 22, 2018, coinciding with Faraone’s 100th live performance as a solo artist, and it was met with high critical acclaim. Rhode Island Monthly writes, “Light Upon is a tender, poetic collection of music, and it was well worth the wait,” and Providence Monthly writes, “John Faraone’s debut album Light Upon is the kind of slow search for clarity, purpose, and quality one would hope a musician undertakes to deliver their work. Whether he realizes it or not, Faraone has found the quality he’s been searching for.”
